At KTCHN, Women Take the Lead

On this International Women’s Rights Day, we celebrate the women who shape the world of event gastronomy. While cooking has historically been associated with women in private households, the professional restaurant industry has long been dominated by men. Today, things are changing, and we are proud to shine a light on the women who make our events extraordinary at KTCHN.

A talented female team

At KTCHN, we are fortunate to be guided by three inspiring talents:

Despina Antypa – A creative pastry chef, she transforms every dessert into an unforgettable sensory experience.

Marie-Victoire Reynders – A visionary manager, she orchestrates every detail with passion and precision.

Laure Genonceaux – A talented chef who elevates ingredients into true culinary masterpieces. Winner of the Be Cheffe competition in November 2024, she embodies excellence in event gastronomy.

Women’s role in Hospitality, Catering, and Events

Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in leadership positions and continue to face major challenges in the restaurant and event industry:

  • Only 33% of management positions in the hospitality sector in Belgium are held by women.
  • There is still an 8% gender pay gap in the industry for the same positions.
  • Fewer than 10% of recognized event catering businesses are led by women.

These numbers highlight that despite the incredible talent and expertise of female chefs, pastry chefs, and entrepreneurs, inequalities persist. However, many initiatives are emerging to recognize and promote female talent.

Initiatives driving change

Fortunately, more and more movements and events aim to increase the visibility of women in the gastronomy and event industry:

  • Awards for female chefs and event caterers – In recent years, many women have been recognized for their creativity and expertise in event gastronomy.
  • Increased visibility for female caterers and chefs on social media – Platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn play a key role in showcasing women’s contributions to event gastronomy.
  • Training programs and competitions for women – Several contests and grants now support young female talents in hospitality, catering, and event management.

How can we drive change?

Recognizing women’s contributions in the kitchen and event industry requires concrete actions:

  • Highlighting female talent by showcasing their expertise and creativity.
  • Encouraging diversity and equal opportunities within event teams.
  • Inspiring the next generation by providing accessible and inspiring role models.

At KTCHN, we are committed to valuing all expertise, regardless of gender. Talent knows no boundaries, and our events are proof of that!
